Dr. Moomjy pursued a unique and rewarding journey in the development of her career of Reproductive Medicine and Infertility and Gynecology. After completing her Master of Arts Degree in Developmental Disabilities at New York University, she proceeded to work fours years in a Brooklyn Hospital and then completed her Medical Degree, cum laude, at the State University of New York, Brooklyn. She received a distinction in research through her lab studies dedicated to analyzing neuroreceptors and neurotransmitters and how they could be manipulated to treat a specific neurological disease, Myasthenia Gravis.

While very interested in neurology, she fell in love with Obstetrics and Gynecology and the care of women. She completed her residency in OB-GYN at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in NYC; a phenomenal experience that covered the full depth and breadth of OBGYN and its subspecialties. She completed clinical research projects involving the ultrasound assessment of the early, tiny fetus. Captivated by early embryonic development, she pursued a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at New York Hospital Cornell Weill with its intense and progressive approach to In Vitro Fertilization, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and Donor Egg IVF. She participated in numerous research projects including the analysis of why fertilization with ICSI might fail, and whether there are microsurgical techniques that could address this; as well as what factors might influence pregnancy results in a Donor Egg IVF treatment. Additionally, she co-authored numerous research projects analyzing different aspects of the manipulation of hormonal stimulation for IVF patients with the goals to optimize pregnancy results and to prevent the complications of hyperstimulation. After fellowship training, she continued with the Cornell IVF group as an attending for four years consulting and treating patients, performing egg retrievals and embryo transfers, performing gynecologic and reproductive surgery as indicated, and developing and expanding the Donor Egg IVF program.

In 2000, she chose to join Madison Women’s Health and Fertility with the goal of providing her expertise to patients in the context of a very private setting that permits a more thorough medical review and an individualized approach to medical problem solving for a patient; with a close continuity of care that is beneficial for all patients. Patients preparing for IVF, ICSI, and/or PGS/PGD (pre-implantation genetic screening/diagnosis) are cared for in our comfortable, private office setting while also having access to excellent embryology services.

Additionally, she continues to teach residents in OB-GYN one to two sessions per week such that patients from underserved communities still have access to excellent specialty fertility and reproductive endocrinology services. Dr. Moomjy continues to supervise advanced laparoscopy and operative hysteroscopy with these resident OB-GYN physicians, taking care of patients with some of the most complicated medical problems.

Dr. Moomjy recognizes that a patient with a fertility problem or a hormonal problem is under substantial stress; often having consulted more than one physician in the process. Yet, her philosophy is that a successful outcome is usually achievable with dedication, perseverance, and medical expertise.
